Description of math this yearBelow are the links to my portfolios |
Math here at High Tech High was different for me even though I came from the middle school. One of the biggest changes was that after every topic we covered we had to make a "Portfolio.” That Portfolio consisted of two parts but for every topic the portfolio was different, for example in the System of Equations portfolio. The first part was to revisit our goals that we had set and see if we had made good progress or if we had already achieved it and for the second part it was a unit summary and we had to answer a few questions to prove that we understood the topic and we could explain our thinking. I think that the portfolio is a really good idea not only for the students but also took for the teachers because a test only shows the understanding of student to a certain extent. While the portfolio digs really deep into what they understood from the topic and it also helped us because we started to notice that maybe we didn't understand the topic as well as we thought. So it gave us an opportunity to look back try to understand what we were having a problem with and finish the topic with one hundred percent understanding. One thing that I learned from math this year that I will take outside of the classroom into my world will be setting goals and coming back to them. The reason I will take this with me is because I think that a lot of the time people set goals and forget about them or push them off to the side but never come back to them to see if they have done any progress to meet the goal that they have set that is why I want to take that knowledge of setting goals and come back to them that way I will be able to meet my goals achieved my goals and be more successful.

Reflection |
As a ninth grader math this year was very different and innovative nut I still enjoyed it. Everyday we worked on something different and we got our communication in class to be much stronger because of Mr. Aurmon encouraging us to share our ideas. Some strengths that I had in math class this year were understanding the topics well and proving it on the test, helping other students with test corrections or problems and sharing my ideas. Now a few struggles that I had were managing my time well snd communicating with all of my table mates, the good thing is that I have been working on making these struggles into strengths. If I could go back and change something in my work it would be to put more detail into my portfolios because on some of the questions I put very little info when I had plenty to say due to time. Some ways that I can push myself to get better at math are being more involved in the
conversation that is happening in class so that I understand the topic more and try new things like harder problems different ways to solve a problem and stuff like that. The best moment I had in math was when we got done with shark tank and we started counting all of our money, I liked this moment a lot because we all couldn't wait to see how much money we had made. I think I have grown a lot this year in math and I will take some of the things I learned outside of school too. |
